As a self-taught mixed media artist, I am intuitively drawn to nature; flowers, trees, twigs, leaves. Not the perfection of them - the imperfection. I am intrigued by their sense of fragility and strength, vulnerability and security, impermanence and sense of renewal.
The foundation of each piece is built upon my own emotional architecture.
Layer upon layer, I build up and sand down, then build up again to spontaneously expose what lies underneath; to make the unseen seen. Sanding away and building back represents resilience and grants me the opportunity to create the soft atmospheric look that I believe helps ground the subject matter. The wood substrate allows for digging or scratching into the surface. I find beauty in the distressing. I choose to leave parts unresolved, disrupted and dare you to find the allure in that.
I explore themes of solitude, transformation, and growth. My hope is you find a moment of tranquility, a respite to dwell in the calm and breathe.
